BD A-Line Arterial Blood Collection Syringes

BD A-Line syringes are used for blood collection by manual aspiration and are supplied without needles. They are designed to be used for arterial blood collection from an arterial line, and are available in 1 mL and 3 mL slip tip, and 3 mL BD Luer-Lok syringes.

Handling and compatibility

Good critical care test results depend on the quality and integrity of blood gas samples; quality samples depend on blood gas syringes designed to minimise preanalytical variables.1

The BD blood collection syringes are spray-coated with calcium-balanced Lithium heparin enabling easy dissolution to minimise clotting and dilution errors without compromising analyte measurements;

  • anticoagulates the sample after mixing2
  • meets the IFCC guidelines for heparin concentration in blood for dry heparin plastic syringes3

BD A-Line Blood Collection Syringe has been validated, and demonstrated stability for the following critical care analytes2:

  • Blood gases: pH, pCO2, pO2
  • Electrolytes: ionised calcium (iCa), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl)
  • Metabolites: glucose (GLU) and lactate (LACT)
  • Hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Hct)
  • Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (CREA)

BD A-Line Arterial Blood Collection Syringes are engineered to preserve sample integrity:

The syringes are spray-dried with calcium-balance Lithium heparin and maintains the blood additive ratio during aspiration.

The BD Hemogard style cap2

  • provides a secure closure, minimising contact with blood during handling and transport of the sample
  • forms an airtight seal to help preserve sample integrity

Port compatibility

  • designed to fit Point of Care Test instrument with a Luer-slip female connector
  • compatible connections with Luer-slip and Luer-lok devices e.g. Arterial-line catheters
