Overview

What IV accessories does BD offer?

BD offers a range of intravenous (IV) stopcocks, IV manifolds, IV filters and other IV accessories that can help meet diverse clinical needs.

BD® Connecta™ stopcock 3 way White

What were BD® Connecta™ Stopcocks designed for?

Stopcocks are used to control fluid flow in intravenous (IV) lines. Connecta™ stopcocks feature:

  • clear housing with two ISO female luer fittings (protected with plugs) and one ISO male luer lock fitting (with a protective cover). The housing has a rotating tap to control fluid flow through the device.¹
  • 360° “ON” directed tap for intuitive operation.¹
  • Color-coded options for easy identification.¹

These stopcocks are available with Extension Tubes—with or without injection ports—within our Extension Sets range.

Manifold with 3 stopcocks

What are IV manifolds?

IV manifolds provide multiple access points for simultaneous infusions:

  • Configurations: Available in 3-port and 5-port configurations, both featuring integrated stopcocks.²
  • Clinical Use: Common in ICU and anaesthesia settings for complex medication regimens.³
  • Design Enhancements: Configurations contain 2-way or 3-way stopcocks, stopcocks with needle-free connector (NFC), and 3 gang or 5 gang manifolds.²
FP-02 Filter

What do IV filters do?

  • Function: Add-on filters attach to IV administration lines to allow the passage of aqueous solutions while blocking microbial cells and air of similar or larger size.⁴
  • Types: Available in two configurations:
    • 0.2 micron filters – designed to remove bacteria and air.
    • 1.2 micron filters – suitable for lipid-based solutions.

Filters may also be integrated directly into IV sets for streamlined use.⁴

  • Placement: Typically positioned near the patient end of the line or within extension sets for enhanced protection and convenience.⁴
  • Clinical Relevance:  Helps reduce the risk of complications such as phlebitis, granuloma, arterial embolism, modulation of immune response, microcirculation deterioration and even death.⁵
TP-MF cap combistopper

What are IV caps used for?

IV caps are used to maintain sterility and prevent contamination.

  • Types: Combistopper, caps and caps with injection port.
  • Cap Compatibility: male or female, luer slip or luer lock.⁶
  • Use Cases: Applied to needle-free connectors, stopcocks and open ports when not in use.
