Focused on the action that Integrated Care Boards can take to increase the quality and access of testing to deliver for patients, I am looking forward to discussing its recommendations with our partners.
Millions of diagnostic tests take place in the NHS each week helping to diagnose patients and identify the next steps in their treatment journey. And yet there are still patients who cannot access the tests that they need and innovations such as digital pathology, greater use of machine learning and AI, and at-home testing are not being adopted widely across the NHS. ICBs are well placed to take a more holistic view across some of the traditional boundaries between services and identify how doing things differently can benefit patients and the system.
We want to work in partnership with the NHS to make sure patients can access the tests they need, when they need them and get accurate results quickly and easily. To help, we have identified a series of recommendations for action at regional and local level covering:
