BD Rowa’s new data-driven maintenance approach maximizes the availability of pharmacy automation systems, reduces unplanned disruptions, and enables maintenance exactly when it is required.

Kelberg, June 2, 2026 – BD Rowa™ unveils its new predictive maintenance approach for automation systems in pharmacies. Going forward real-time machine data, intelligent algorithms, and CRM-supported processes will determine when and how maintenance is carried out. With this, the company is strategically advancing its service offering and replacing rigid maintenance intervals with a data-driven, demand-based model.

Traditionally, maintenance was performed at scheduled fixed annual intervals—regardless of whether a machine actually required servicing. With the new approach, BD Rowa™ is leading the transition to condition-based and predictive maintenance. Maintenance activities will take place precisely when they are needed and when they provide the greatest value to customers. This significantly reduces unplanned downtime in day-to-day pharmacy operations.

Data-driven service model for higher availability

Key components of the new approach include:

  • Real-time monitoring and early detection of deviations: Data from the BD Rowa™ MMP (Machine Management Portal) platform enables early identification of performance deviations and allows proactive initiation of service measures.
  • AI-supported maintenance planning with BD Rowa™ AILA: Intelligent algorithms support determining the optimal timing for maintenance activities.
  • Maintenance and repair in a single visit: If a technician is already on site to troubleshoot an issue, the CRM system automatically checks whether maintenance is also due and, where possible, bundles both into a single service visit.

“With this step, we are transitioning from calendar-based to truly intelligent maintenance,” says Dominik Ebbers, Senior Director Service Strategy & Transformation at BD Rowa™. “By leveraging machine data and intelligent algorithms, we can act earlier, more precisely, and more efficiently—not because a date appears in the calendar, but because the machine tells us what it needs. This is a major step forward for our customers and for the future of pharmacy automation.”

Improved customer experience

In pharmacies, where automation systems support numerous processes every day, any unplanned interruption can impact operations. With the new predictive maintenance approach, customers benefit from fewer disruptions, smoother workflows, and a significant reduction in unplanned downtime.
