Overview

The BD™ DigniShield™ Stool Management System (SMS) with odour barrier properties is intended for faecal management by diverting and collecting liquid or semi-liquid stool to minimise skin contact in bedridden patients and to provide access for the administration of medications.

The BD™ DigniShield™ SMS device consists of a catheter tube assembly, a collection bag, a 50 ml syringe, a syringe of lubricating jelly and a biological odour eliminator. The device has no components made of natural rubber latex.

Containment

Designed to minimise permeation of gas and water vapor and diverting stool into the drainage tube. Unique conical cuff designed to help minimise leakage.

Optimised Drainage

With BD™ DigniShield™ SMS’s anatomical design, the cuff drainage area is 149% larger while maintaining an external cuff diameter comparable to other commercially available faecal management devices.1

Minimised Pressure

An in-vivo study accessing cuff pressure found that the DigniShield™ SMS retention cuff pressure was at least 2-fold lower than other devices tested in all body positions, head-of-bed elevations, and device overfill volumes.1

Odour Control

BD’s proprietary Permalene™ polymer technology significantly reduces tubing permeability of compounds that contribute to odour – more than 76% when compared to silicone tubing.2
