False-Positive File Flagged by Anti-Virus for BD FACSDiva

Background

BD is committed to providing safe and secure products to our customers given the important benefits they provide to patient health. We value the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all protected health and personally identifiable information (e.g. PHI, PII) in accordance with all applicable federal and state privacy and security laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

This notification provides product security information and recommendations related to BD FACSDiva software. BD FACSDiva software is a collection of rich tools for flow cytometer and application setup, data acquisition, and data analysis that help streamline flow cytometry workflows for today's busy laboratory.

In January 2018, BD was made aware of some anti-virus vendors flagging an installed file in the BD FACSDiva software. This file, LaunchDiva32Bit.exe, which was added in BD FACSDiva v8.0.2 ensures the correct version of the Java runtime is present on the user's workstation before launching FACSDiva. This is a legitimate file and as such anti-virus alerts related to this particular file are considered false-positives.

BD recommends that customers contact their anti-virus vendor to ensure LaunchDiva32Bit.exe is categorized as legitimate to prevent future false-positive alerts. Additionally, as part of BD's best practices in our approach to product security, internal teams will investigate alternative approaches to verify the Java runtime which avoids the use of scripting. The LaunchDiva32bit.exe file will be removed as part of a software update in an upcoming release of BD FACSDiva.
