1. If I need a breast biopsy, does this mean I have cancer?
Not necessarily. Approximately four of every five breast biopsies are benign and show no cancer.2
2. Will the procedure using the BD Eleveation™ Breast Biopsy System leave a surface scar?
There will be little or no scarring since the procedure involves a small 4 mm - 5 mm skin nick.
3. Will I feel any pain?
Most patients feel little or no pain. You may have some slight bruising and tenderness following the biopsy.
4. Will I be asleep during the biopsy?
No. The procedure is generally performed using local anesthesia which means you’ll be awake with little or no recovery time.
5. Will I need a ride home?
You’ll need to discuss this with your doctor but in most cases you will not need a ride home.
6. Will I be required to stay overnight in the hospital?
No. A biopsy performed with the BD EleVation™ Breast Biopsy System is on an outpatient basis.
7. When can I resume normal activities?
Most women can immediately resume normal activities.
8. How long will it take to receive my biopsy results?
Your doctor will be able to provide you with the timeline to receive a diagnosis.
9. Can a BD Elevation™ Breast Biopsy System be used to biopsy a benign tumor or fi broadenoma (non-cancerous tissue)?
Yes. The BD EleVation™ Breast Biopsy System is able to sample breast tissue for further testing by a pathologist.
