Inclusion, Diversity & Equity
Our focus is on integrating Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (ID&E) into everything we do at BD, to drive innovation, to better understand patient and customer needs, and to make BD the best possible place for all people to work.
To fulfill our Purpose, inclusion, diversity, and equity are prominent and lived pieces of our culture. We’re intentional about our placement of “inclusion” as the first component of our strategy. We strive to create and nurture a deep sense of belonging for our associates, ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive and realize their potential. We understand that including diverse voices and perspectives when decisions are made fuels innovation for new technologies and better patient outcomes.
Why BD is a Great Place to Work
Our Global and Diverse Talent

Everyone at BD plays a role in attracting talent by building our brand, from associate engagement and interactions to the stories shared with family and friends.

Ash Miranda is living his authentic truth now, but he says he spent the majority of his life not feeling real, feeling like a statue when he saw his reflection. An instructor in the Customer Education Department, Ash shared his story about coming out as transgender at BD.
I am valued at BD. I’ve worked at several large care environments in the past, but I know BD values my skills, experience, and perspective. I also have a wife to whom I’ve been married for 16 years. BD is an extremely inclusive environment, which I appreciate.
We want every associate at BD to know they belong, and they have a welcoming place for their ideas. Our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) are associate-led, company-sponsored, executive-supported groups that serve as catalysts of change through advocacy and allyship and provide a sense of community and acceptance for associates across our organization.

We are committed to providing an inclusive workplace where all associates can be authentic, feel accepted and realize their full potential. Our commitment is reflected in the intersection of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and ID&E strategies – strengthening our diverse talent pipelines; driving leadership accountability and ensuring equal access to resources; and fostering inclusion through our teams.
The Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee of the Board has general oversight responsibility for the processes, policies and practices related to environmental, social and governance matters. The oversight of the 2030+ goals and other important ESG matters is allocated among the Board and it’s four committees. The Compensation and Human Capital Committee has oversight of the BD Healthy Workforce and Communities goals, including ID&E and human capital.
We continue to make progress and drive sustained momentum on our journey to build a better BD. We celebrate the recognition we receive from respected organizations and remain committed and accountable to the work required within our company and beyond our corporate walls to build belonging, acceptance and equity for all.
