The BD™ Bruker MALDI Biotyper® CA System* 

identifies microorganisms using MALDI-TOF (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight) mass spectrometry to measure a unique proteomic fingerprint of an organism.

It offers a comprehensive FDA-cleared library and straightforward result interpretation designed for fast, accurate and reliable microorganism identification within minutes.2-4

Fully traceable, streamlined workflow

The BD™ Bruker MALDI Biotyper® CA System workflow has been designed to be efficient and easy. The fully traceable workflow has been streamlined and requires only a few simple steps to generate high quality microorganism identifications.2

 

Typically, no more than an isolated single colony from a culture is required. The entire process needs only a few minutes to complete.2

 

The dedicated BD™ Bruker MALDI Biotyper® CA System software automates the process of acquiring the mass spectrum and performing the match against the extensive FDA-cleared reference library to provide a result.

 

The result for each sample is clearly listed within the user interface and interpreted with the resulting confidence score and ‘traffic light’ color scheme, allowing for simple result interpretation.

The BD™ Bruker MALDI Biotyper® CA System offers high accuracy of organism identification, with high-confidence ID results having comparable accuracy to 16S rRNA gene sequencing.5

We have an intentional focus on library expansion which currently offers US-IVD identification for over 480 different FDA-cleared species including gram-negative bacteria, gram-positive bacteria, and yeasts.

The proprietary lifetime** Smartbeam™ laser and high-performance vacuum of the BD™ Bruker MALDI Biotyper® CA System help generate fast target exchange times.

Optimized workflow and efficient testing

The MBT Biotarget™ plates can support up to 96 sample positions and can be reused if not all target positions have been consumed, allowing for test volume flexibility and eliminating batching requirements. In addition, routine specimens and positive blood culture specimens can be combined in one run with all results visible in a single final report, which may further help laboratories to save on time and costs.1,5,6

 

For added convenience, BD provides ready-to-use packaged quality controls (Bacterial Test Standard) which have been specifically designed for use with the MALDI Biotyper® and cover the entire mass range of proteins used for precise identification.

However, obtaining, organizing and communicating this information is labor intensive.7,8 To provide timely, optimized care and pursue consistent data-driven improvements to emerging antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections, clinicians need rapid, real-time access to relevant diagnostic data.9

The BD EpiCenter™ Microbiology Data Management System supports MALDI plate mapping and enables connectivity and automatic transfer of results to the BD Phoenix™ M50 Automated Microbiology System.10
