Together We Advance: Building Stronger Communities in South Carolina

Utah Banner
Overview

BD’s journey in Sumter began in 1970 with just 25 employees, and for more than 55 years, this community has been our home. Today, nearly 900 associates – including more than 90 with 25+ years of service – bring precision, skill, and care to every product they make. From this corner of South Carolina, they produce billions of blood collection products each year, supporting healthcare providers in the U.S. and over 190 countries.

As one of BD’s largest manufacturing facilities, the work done here plays a critical role in advancing diagnostics and improving patient outcomes worldwide. Globally, BD produces more than 37 billion medical devices annually, operates in 200 countries, and is supported by over 60,000 employees – helping power healthcare around the globe.

Our purpose: Advancing the world of health, and it starts right here at home.

Our folks behind this work are more than employees. They’re neighbors, friends, and active members of the Sumter community. Their dedication, pride, and strong community spirit defines who we are.

Whether it’s walking to fight heart disease, donating to local education foundations, or supporting our troops at Shaw Air Force Base, our team is always stepping up to lend a hand. We’re proud to partner with local groups like the United Way and the Tuomey Foundation to help our people make a real difference at home. For us, it’s not just about manufacturing medical devices — it’s about caring for the community we call home.
