Responding at Times of Disaster

Overview

When disaster strikes, BD donates medical products and financial assistance to aid those in urgent need. For more than a decade, we’ve partnered with international relief agencies — including Direct Relief, IHP, Planet Water and Heart to Heart International — to ensure our supplies and financial support are deployed as quickly and efficiently as possible, to the people and communities who need them most.

Responding to disasters

As natural disasters like hurricanes, floods and tornadoes become more frequent and severe, many communities face growing challenges in maintaining access to critical, lifesaving resources such as clean water, healthcare, hygiene supplies and food.

BD tackles these challenges by pre-positioning funding, essential, donated BD medical supplies, mobile health and water units in key geographic regions.

When disaster strikes, this advance preparation helps ensure our partners, like Direct Relief and Heart to Heart International, have rapid access to the resources they need to support emergency medical teams and local healthcare facilities in restoring care delivery.

In cases when severe weather events drive water scarcity, damage sanitation systems and heighten the risk of infectious disease outbreaks, BD partners with Planet Water to install community water towers that provide clean, reliable water for drinking, hygiene, and disease prevention.

Caring for each other in times of trouble

Driven by BD associates who wanted to support colleagues whose lives had been disrupted by natural disasters, we launched the BD Employee Disaster Relief Fund in 2016. The Fund now provides eligible associates with financial assistance for basic living expenses, including housing, home repair, food, clothing and other basic living essentials.
